In the process of turning this basement into a fam

In the process of turning this basement into a family room/lounge, this lally column was right in the way.

We were able to get a structural engineer to assist in plans to modify the carrying beam. Once the plans were approved we installed an additional 2x12 to the beam before adding a temporary support and removing the lally column.

On to the next task, check back in soon for the finished room.

Squeezed in a little weekend project.

Ripped out the old carpet and padding, removed the staples and cleaned the subfloor, and played out some Addington Acacia LVP from #smartcore flooring.

Last, the trim boards were color matched to the closet door and existing trim and then installed.

It got a little dark by the time clean up was done so the photo quality isn’t great.

The bottom of this exterior wall was rotted out from the old stairs collecting water. We were able to replace the damaged framing and install be wall sheathing before installing new PVC trim to protect the wall behind the new concrete stairs that will be installed in the spring.

The quality of the floor and ease of installation makes it well worth the price at just under $4 per square foot. We couldn’t recommend this flooring enough, from professional contractor to weekend DIYer this is the best product you can get.

Without a proper cap, the top of your chimney probably looks like this.

We removed the existing crown and top flue, chipped out the old mortar and set in two new flues to raise the exposed height of the flue. We poured a new crown and installed a new metal cap to keep the rain and snow out.

I always say this will be our last roof but we just can’t help it. Outside of painting, framing, finish carpentry, flooring, doors and windows we just keep doing more roofs and by the end of the job we are always glad we did.

Maybe the next one will be the last one… but probably not!

Install the right flashing the right way. A little

Install the right flashing the right way. A little water damage over time can create huge problems. The sill plate on this side of the house was complete destroyed from water damage and termites.

We removed the siding, supported and lifted the wall, replaced the sill plate and sisters some joists before installing a new rim joist and wrapping everything back up.

Now the ledger is installed and ready for a proper deck.

The corner was also replaced before wrapping but we forgot to take a photo.
